Having being knocked out of the McMullan Cup 11days earlier the Ballycastle lads travelled back over the mountain for the preliminary round of the shield. With both teams running each other close in the last match the first half was the same with the town taking a one point lead at halftime 0-6 to 0-5. Conor Boyd 0-5 Tony McGarry 0-01.
The first score of the second half was slotted over the bar by Seamus McAuley and then Tiernan Kelly got on the scoreboard. Cushendall managed another two points and a late goal at the final whistle but MacUilin lads had managed to slot over a further 10 points to leave the final score 0-18 to 1-07 to the town.
